WHAT IS SCELETIUM?
Sceletium tortuosum is a Southern African medicinal plant which has been used for centuries by indigenous tribes for its unique uplifting properties.
However, only in recent years it has been researched and acknowledged by doctors and psychiatrists around the world for its mood enhancing and calming effects.
HOW DOES SCELETIUM WORK?
The brain is made up of countless neurons that transmit messages to each other by jumping over the gap (called the Synapse) to neighbouring neurons. This signal cannot jump the synapse without assistance, the message can only travel when the neuron releases a neurotransmitter to fill this gap and allow the signal to transient via it. The part of the neuron that receives all signals are called Receptors.
An alkaloid that regulates the effects of one of the brains most important neurotransmitters, which is Serotonin. It interacts with the serotonin and dopamine receptors in the brain. It allows the brain to function with lower levels of serotonin, for time to naturally build these levels up.
Used to transmit messages to the brain and contributes to the well-being, emotions, appetite, cognitive thoughts and moods of a human-being.
The chemical in the brain that effects your emotions, movements and sensations of pleasure.
ORIGINS OF SCELETIUM
Sceletium Tortuosum also called “Kanna“ or “Kougoed” is a medical plant, which grows in the semidesert areas of South Africa and Namibia.
It has been used for centuries by the indigenous people of South Africa for its unique uplifting properties. Its effects enhance mental and physical endurance and it is an appetite suppressant. It was originally used by the Khoi-Khoi and San tribes as a mild anesthetic for tooth extractions and colic for children. It then evolved to being chewed, smoked or snuffed to produce a sense of euphoria & alertness which gently faded into a mode of calmness and relaxation, across the mind and body.
